after reading all the post etc. ref which fluid is good for our auto trans..i'm more confused than ever...(i'm older so forgive me)
it's time for a fluid change so i do need some help
dino fluid..what kind or brand is best ?
synt...besides amsoil which one is best ?
thanks and i appologize for any confusion
http://www.schaefferoil.com/204_transmission_fluid.html Trans runs cooler, shifts better. About 100.00 for 5 gallons, I was skeptical before I tried it. Good Luck. By the way, I have a 2000 1ton crew cab 4x4 short box with 35" tires. My trans temps rarely exceed 155 degrees. Just towed a jeep from Green Bay, Wi. to Leadville, Co. Even through the mountains the highest I got was 162. I have the digital gauges that show the highest trans temp, boost, and Egt. Until you reset them. I used to hit 180 degrees in Green Bay regularly on tranny temp.

I believe the most important point here is to keep the temps down below 200 if you are looking for lasting trans..It is the heat that kills them. Change the fluid and filter about every 30 K, along with the draining of the torque converter. (there is a drain under your inspection cover). I would just use mercon, either motorcraft or chevron or valoline..
Like posted above, Shaeffer's 204SAT tranny fluid. BTS puts it in all there tranny's and so do alot of other folks & businesses. No need to change every 30K like dino fluid, you can go 60K. If you want to make sure send in a sample to any oil analysis lab and they will let you know how the fluid is doing.
Call the 800 # on the web site and ask for the closest sales rep. They will give you his/her #. The places listed on the web site are only the retail locations. The sales reps can save you 15-20% over retail.
RobertJohn, I'm a dino guy. Just go to Sam's or Costco, etc., and buy the no name brand that's rated Mercon/Dexron III and change it every 30k as recommended. If you aren't having high heat problems there is no need to pay the extra money for synthetic IMHO. It's worked for 150k for me.

I've been to Sam's and Wally world and they are all out, are they taking it off or what ? Wally world did have their brand that says for use in trans, using DexonIII/Mercon...is it worth using or what ?
Thanks

As long as it is rated Mercon.. (it's made by a major oil supplier), go for it..

I wouldn't think so. I can go to Sam's around here in Georgia and buy a pallet full tonight. (I know, it would be a long drive just to buy transmission fluid.)
It is a white case labeled:
Performance Engineered
Automatic Transmission Fluid
For use in Vehicles previously serviceable by
Dexron III?Mercon Brands
But to answer your question, I wouldn't hesitate to buy no-name from WalMart as long as it is Dexron III/Meron type.

lmao...yep a long drive...
Sam's in Corpus is OUT...they even checked inventory and said it was on order but had no idea when it would get here. I'll keep checking as Sam's has the best price per case.
Thanks
