79...have you ever suffered a crippling injury? a major life altering loss?
i'll give you the addiction associated with recreational activities. but to throw that blanket over all addiction is not only wrong...it's ill informed .
without details...my addiction is due to inoperable injury. i didn't ask for it or see it coming. my wife was addicted to Morphine in the last 2 months of her life. I6 has his issues.
your post was mean and lacking background.
you owe me nada. I6 deserves better.
You, sir, do not have a clue as to what you are talking about. jd
Why do you say that?
I have been "addicted" to things many times before, and there have been times i thought i would be dead before i could stop. but there came a point when i realized that i didn't want what ever it was to have that kind of a hold on me and my life. i had to learn how to make my self stop. it wasn't easy, but if you really want to stop doing something, then you will stop doing it.
79 you're 21yo. you weren't addicted...you binged. there is a massive difference. as i said in Post 16......you have no clue about pain, loss, or the things that can cause "addiction".
you owe I6 an apology.
My younger brother just lost his life long battle with adiction last Feb 4th....he was 35years old. Good looking, great personality, and a hard worker. He took a bottle of Viodin, after drinking heavily, sucessfully taking his own life, completley devistating me and all that loved him.
Dont do the same thing to your family my brother did to us. I know & realize how hard it is, but there IS life after drugs & alcohol.
Watch "intervention" , its a show on cable (forget what ch.) . Its a reality show about people who are heavliy addicted to one thing or another, whos familys force the help they need on them, with some really good outcomes.
On January 24, 2003, my wife died after fighting an addiction to perscription drugs for over 20 years. She became addicted thru no fault of her own. It is evident you know nothing about real addictions. jd

i am sorry for your loss, i really am, but WHY did she not stop?
Addiction is just a nice sounding word that means you have no self control.
You are making a statement that is in direct contradiction with 80+ years of the medical community's recognition of it as a disease, likely with genetic reasons. Two people with otherwise identical backgrounds can drink and the person with the genetic pre-disposition has endorphines released in the brain which the other person does not release. These endorphines create a cycle of craving when not present.
Look up "addiction disease description" for more in-depth descriptions than you can read in a lifetime.

Don't expect someone just out of the know-it-all teenage stage to elucidate words which exude life's wisdom.
I6 - find your way out thru something, but you gotta move in that direction. Your guitar, books, something physical, anything. Don't give up caring. Post up in here every day (or hour) and tell us where you are at.
...you feel that way..... IF YOU WANT TO STOP, YOU WILL. simple as that.
no you aren't and you've no clue about stopping. your binges aren't any where close to an addiction.
as Ken suggested, read up on genetic predispositions, as i suffer from chronic pain read about that. My wife had one of the most painful cancers and lived on Morphine for 2 months. should she have STOPPED?? she'd have died from the pain. yeah these are a bit extreme cases, but you show no intellect regarding addiction.
i argue with many on here on different issues, but they've done research on the issue. you've done none on addiction.
your blanket statement is offending to me as an addict of pain pills(recovering) and alcohol, my wife(gone),I6 suffering and asking.....and the others that posted about those they've lost or may lose.
i beg you 79...re-evaluate.
There are people that will give up everything that they know and love for just one more "high" that they don't want in the first place. Some with the right kind of help can live a normal life, BUT they will always be an addict. It is an illness not a choice.
Watch "Intervention".
Ever watch "Fight Club"? Go to a 12 step program meeting as a FAKER, see what these people go though. That one meeting will change your life.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.
good point ashshade but 79 thinks he knows better than those in the vice. a tv show won't sway his opinion.
he's a kid that hasn't dealt with debilitating pain or catastrophic loss let alone overbearing genetics.
i6 ,if you feel you have nothing to look towards in your life,or if you just don't care anymore, then it sounds to me like you may have some depression issues. the key is to get some help from a professional. don't try to go it alone.there are folks that can help.you can always come here to lean on us,but for you and your family and loved ones sake, please seek out some real help.* many of us (myself included) have seeked the companionship of fellow FTE members, and have received a lot of uplifting advise, and words of encouragment in times of need. (i choose to look to the good Lord for strength, and answers to my needs). you may choose to get your answers from the same,or from us here at FTE,from family or friends,or* professionals.what ever you choose,i hope it helps you gain a more possitive outlook on things, and makes you enjoy life,(it truly is a gift) and help you overcome any type of addiction you may have. keep on trying, dont ever give up!-billy
