CDR Questions

So ive come to terms with having to clean/replace the CDR, i just have a few questions. How do you clean the CDR? And with what type of solvent? If i am not creating enough vacuum, will the valve stay open? Can you manually close the valve? I dont know if theres anything else I need to know but feel free to educate

I used starting fluid to clean out mine. Not sure if that's the right thing to use or not!

don't laugh, but i started cleaning mine with charcoal lighter fluid to get the worst of the gunk to soften up. finished up with gasoline. man, couldn't believe how much crud came out of one piece of metal that small. if you use gas be sure that it's completely dry before reinstalling it. don't want a chance on stray gas getting in cylinders. can't remember if i'm right on this, but if you put your finger over the small hole (really small hole on face of CDR--make sure it's cleaned out) and blow on the top (inlet) end of valve, you should feel the valve opening/closing if the diaphragm isn't ruptured. i guess if your hearing is good, which mine ain't, you could hear the valve actuating inside. hope that helps you. don't think mine had been cleaned in 175K miles and made much difference in motor after cleaning.
