I have a '84 F250 6.9L w/ATS turbo and I have problems starting when the engine is warm. First thing in the morning fires up on first full engine revolution. Once the engine is up to operating temp then if she sits for about an hour, even less. Then she wont start.. well if I crank and crank she eventually will.. but I have run the batteries down a couple of times in the process... and starters aren't cheap so I really don't want to burn that up.
It seems like a fuel issue to me. I am just not sure as to what I can do to fix it. Could it be my IP is wearing out? Pumps fine when cold and vicous and not able to pump when hot and thin??? Should I look at getting a set of O-rings for the fuel rails? But if it was drawing air.. but if it was doing that wouldn't it still be tough to start after sitting 3-4 hours? (if she wont fire right up, I can go and come back in a couple hours and she fires right up.)
One of my 88's had the same problems when the injector pump started to go. Replaced the pump and haven't had THAT problem since. Now its on to the other problems!!
Symptoms of a worn out IP unfortunately....... If you must get home pour some tap water over the rear of the IP....it should start... this is a one time get out of jail free card.
