Transporting SD from Coast to coast?

I ‘m looking at transporting my Truck from NJ to CA, any reference would be greatly appreciated. Long story short, I have no more holidays left at work hence I can’t afford to drive it myself. I have spoken to few transport companies and they all quote something like $1300 for regular car and never give a precise number for my truck. Let me know if you have leads...

My truck is F 350 dually, long bed and crew cab…I think it sums up the weight and size questions.

I have used DAS to ship a classic car from Washington state to Indiana. I was very upset with the way they treated my car and would recommend you avoid using them.

Here are a couple of transport companies that you may want to look into. Probably not the cheapest, but they both have allot of experience hauling vehicles for Ford and should have no problem giving accurate quotes and providing quality service.

http://www.reliable-carriers.com/

http://select1.com/

If either of these do not fit the bill drop me a PM. I have another source, but I am not sure if they have the time to take on a private single vehicle transport.

Maybe you could ask some local truckers, or even a local shipping company. Sometimes, if they have extra room on the trailer and are going near your destination, they will let you slip the truck in for A LOT less than normal cost. They are already paid for the trip by the first customer.

A good friend of mine drives for Atlas Van lines...moving people all over the country. They do this to pick up some extra bucks. Last time they did it, they were comming back from Oklahoma empty and someone wanted some stuff dropped off in Tennessee. My friend got free diesel out of the deal.

Just something to consider...

I remember when I was looking at transporting my SRW early 99 back from CA to Minn, the transport company wanted more for DRW. So get an exact quote before you go forward.

A good question what would it cost you in fuel to have someone drive it, or drive it yourself.

im with sam, calculate what it would cost for you to drive the truck that far

better yet, run a mapquest to see how many miles it is, figure out rough mileage to divide the total miles by then and multiply by tge average cost of fuel
im sure $1300 isnt too outrageous for such a journey including fuel and time

At $3.50 & 10mpg for approx. 2500 miles, you'll be spending about $1000 for gas alone. $300 for overhead & profit isn't too bad really.

i think you should look into the links that PSHD posted and i think the second one looks promising since i have seen a couple of Saleen and Roush mustangs and a Ford GT being shipped to a couple of dealerships here with that company

I don't think a dually will fit inside a dry goods trailer, but ATC Crazy has a good point, somebody deadheading a load would love the extra income. Do you have a local company that runs Flatbeds?

All the transporters I posted have contracts with Ford. When the recall happened with the GT's, Ford used Reliable to transport them door to door for the owners.

DRW's that are transported enclosed need to have the fenders and outer duals removed to fit unless the trailer has soft sides, but that is common practice for the carriers I suggested.

I agree that ATC Crazy has a good point, but the thing you have to watch there is that your part of the load is insured and that the company/driver actually has experience hauling vehicles.

The Reliable price is fair in my book considering the level of service and expertise that they provide. They would be my first choice.

Pilot's price does not surprise me, but it was worth a check. The deal with them is they probably cannot put a mixed load together based on your needs and they quoted you based on buying the whole truck for just your load. Price is right on par for a whole truck traveling the distance you need and taking in consideration for backhaul costs.

for the cost are they going to enclose your truck or will it be an open trailer?
will it fit in a race trailer? (not sure how wide a dualie is)
if it will fit, there are several race buddies that may be headed out to Ca. in the near future to bring back a car.
The dualie may limit your ability to have it enclosed.
