This winter I will be converting my 428 over to multi-port EFI. I'm trying to decide which intake to use... My understanding from my research is that an open plenum works better for EFI. I don't want to end up losing too much bottom end power with the open plenum, but the EFI guy I've been talking with sez an open plenum intake is less susceptible to loosing low end power with EFI then it is with a carb.... Guess I don't really understand why, but he's the expert.... Wondering what intake some of you FE gurus would suggest for using as the base for this conversion.... The ECM will be lap top tunable, also....
I'm going to be using aluminum heads, not for sure on whose just yet, along with a roller cam ground to the specs suggested by the guy doing the fuel injection. I don't have those numbers yet, either. Kind of in a catch 22 situation, the cam choice is dependent on the intake and heads used, and the cylinder head selection is to an extent dependent on what the cam is..... Where should I start????
I would run a victor intake if it was me. And your EFI guy is right. It wont affect your low end running a single plan intake. Remember your injectors are in the runners.
Also a good one to run would be the ED Streetmaster intake! That would be better because the Victor needs port work done before use. Cant really run them out of the box!

Scored a Streetmaster off of eBay and sent it to the guy building the MPFI part of the injection (bungs and fuel rails). Said it looks great and he's going to go to work on it....
He also suggests match porting the intake and heads, so I need to make another big $$$$$ decision.... Blue Lightening's, Edelbrocks, or ?????? would you guys suggest???????
Thanks again for all the help......I think the 428 is going to turn into one sweet engine!!!!!!

I would send your intake off to Scott Vincent to do the port/plenum work, off the FordFE.com forum. He is very reasonable and does an outstanding job!!! Hands Down....
For heads, Blue Thunders are the bomb but you have to buy the T&D rocker set up to run on those heads ($1,000 for the rockers). But those would be the ticket for sure.
But the BIG Q is, what is the rest of your build for the engine??? C/R, cam specs, Solid cam, Roller cam, what are you using the engine for???? That would help on what heads to choice from. JMHO
What kind of valve overlap do these aftermarket EFIs tolerate? I know the emission control engines would have a fit on closed loop because of the exhaust O2 specs.

Use a wide band O2, and you can set it to what ever you want. So if you are cruzing down the Highway and wanted gas mileage. Then you can set it on the lean side (lets say 15 A/F to 16 A/F). Then when you want to get after it, you can set it to 13to1 A/F Ratio.
As for cams, You can run a radical cam with it. Now thats cool!!!!

Well, I hate to admit it, but all this engine is for my '66 T Bird..... I've had bullet fast drag cars, sprint cars, built bunches of coupes and roadsters.... Now I want to build me a world class super cruizer out of that old sled of a 'Bird!!!! I know it doesn't make a bit of sense, but it doesn't have to!!!! Just something I've always wanted to build....
As for the rest of the engine, I keep looking at Barry's stroker kit, with the H Beam rods, forged pistons, etc....Haven't got with him on the specifics yet, still trying to dial in this EFI stuff....
Then, with your advice, I contacted Oregon Cam Grinders.... I'm really thinking a roller cam for the beast. The folks there said no problem, they could grind me whatever I wanted.
Blue Thunder heads right now are at the top of my list, as well as the suggestion of the shop I use for cylinder heads. They seem to be top of the line and with a bit of tweaking more then capable of of the job....From what I've read, they are light years ahead of the Edelbrocks....
Nothing is set in stone yet, just want this engine to be powerful, responsive, and reliable. I'm sure there are engines more capable and probably a lot cheaper to build then the FE's, just always have liked them.

Sounds like you are on it!!! Man that thing should run like the wind. Blue Thunder has always made nice stuff! I'm glade that I can help and any time....
Also Dave, let me know if you are looking for more EFI parts. I have some web sites if you need them!
Well, always looking for a deal.... I've got the 428 and a couple 390's still stashed away for future projects.... The EFI part is handled, went with Affordable Fuel Injection for the ECM, harness, and the initial work on the intake. This one is going to cost a bunch of bucks to get ready, plus all the time and money I'm dumping into the suspension, brakes, and the rest of the mechanical. Ordered the new bellhousing to put a TKO 600 behind an FE last week..... Naaah, I'd better not be looking at anymore web sites!!!!!!! LOL Going to have to sell some toys the way it is!!!!!
