I bought a replacement block heater and cord set to replace mine that recently stopped working. My question is..... is this a heater that heats up the metal of the block or is it immersed in the coolant fluid? I thought they were heating up the metal, but the end of this thing looks as though it would go into liquid. It looks like one of the portable coffee heaters with the copper looking element. Is this right? All the numbers match up so I'm sure it's the right part. Any help is appreciated.
It is immersed in the water, goes in the block on the drivers side. takes longer to reroute the new cord than to install the heater unit. Watch out when you pull the old one, lots of antfreeze that doesn't drain from the drain plug in the radiator. just changed mine last week
Good luck make sure you run the engine to get the air out before you plug in the new heater, that is after you fill it again with antifreeze. I you have lots of miles it is a good time to flush your cooling system before you change the block heater

Thanks for the tip. Had the fluid changed little less than a year ago, so should be ok.
