got more info on 715
was a fire house truck.
fan blade came off and went clean thru the hood.
old engine shot.
right now sitting on my flatbed in eagle nest NM under 3 ft of snow.
10 more days till kick off.
I talked to the guy and they wanted $1000 for the truck... but he also had a couple of Springfield Armory M1 Garands, easily worth about $2500, I bought those instead for $700.
it has been a long "winter"
fe swap was the easy part..
6 months of building 4 links front and rear and boxing the frame.
takes quite a bit of building and tearing apart whenyou go where no one has gone.
suredont think there is another m-715 fe powered 4 link rock machine out there.
i know this belongs up near the first couple of posts but...
I dont mean to go off on a rant here about the magazines.. i've subscribed to petersens 4WOR for .....a few years up until a couple of months ago and the FE a few years back was on one of their "THINGS TO AVOID" list.. or things that are crappy or whatever their BS crap was about.. although they did create a whole chevy S truck. anyway it said the FE was laidend with fat, heavy, and so on but i dont get why they say that? what big block is lighter?? FE is 650 lbs... 385 series....700+.. bbc...700 mopar B/RB not sure but they're not lighter.. stick an aluminum intake and youre down to 600 lbs.. Petersens can blow me, my very first engine i bought was a 390GT, I love FE's, and theyre starting to get quite a bit more aftermarket love too. prices becoming more reasonable and stuff being readily available. Kind of reminds me why i didnt renew my subscription.
yes sir on the fe's
my 69 f-250 which weighs in at 5200 lbs with the iron flat bed built just like you are talking
on a 390 slightly over with
a dana 60 4:11 will flat light them up.
75 mph is a breeze and hauling 11 grand GVW is just another day...
yeah
i read the same article in the 4x4 mag....kind of makes me wonder...anyway
why not be different. one of those little chevies would look lost in between the frame rails of this 3.5 ton "thing"
the 435 would be bigger than the engine !!
will try to post some pics soon.
have to go make bucks right now.
Been a few years...
Truck is done
Needs a roll cage and 5 point belts....
on 40" tires it is 93 inches tall so it is UP THERE...
made it my new Avatar.
only thing Jeep is the body...sooo its a Ford right.?
and
it
does
not
get
stuck.
