I have a stock Carter 1v on my 300 six, truck has been sitting for almost a year w/o running,(ran well before it was shut down for other repairs/modifications) now it starts ok hot or cold, but won't seem to take gas, when I push the pedal down it acts as if I'm backing off, wonder what might be wrong? are these little 1vs hard to rebuild?
Thanks!! Rick
Sounds like the accelerator pump diaghragm has a hole in it. If you don't want to rebuild the whole thing, you can usually buy the diaghragm separate. They are extremely easy to rebuild, but if it runs okay otherwise and isn't leaking, why bother?
If it was mine I would put a complete kit in. If I remember right they are about $14 at napa. They include instructions.Even if you just take it apart for a cleaning I would at least put a needle and seat in as I've found they go bad[ turn hard ] some times in as little as 2 years from this new gas. Your accelerator pump could be bad but I would expect its just varnishy crud.
Ditto. I've had the same truck (and carb) for more than ten years...and it craves a rebuild every 18 months or so.
I sure would like to find out where I could get a butterfly shaft and bushing kit for mine. Before long I'm gonna hafta drill fuel passages to area around the butterfly shaft to richen up the mixture!!!
You didn't mention what year you have, but there are two carbs being auctioned on E-bay. Search : Ebay Motors for "Ford 300". For those of you following, there's some split exhausts on there too right now...
