1999 diesel engine stops running

Started truck and let it warm up, engine shut off, restarted right away, did it again a few minutes later. Once on the road no issues with running but service engine light is on solid now.

Sounds like the classic CPS issue. If you replace it, make sure you get the new (cheaper and better) gray CPS.

You really need to have your faults codes read with a scanner compatiable to our powerstroke.. When the SES light is on, does the engine miss like it is running on less than 8 cylinders? This would indicate under the valve cover wiring or connector is bad or loose.. Did you get a new cps from ford or aftermarket?

New CPS from Napa Auto. Engine running on all 8 - plenty of power, just stops like the fuel is shut off when at idle. After driving the truck for 1/2 hour engine no longer shutting off at idle.

There have been a few complaints about CPS from Napa. Might look into that.

Napa CPS = Pile of crap, you may have a bad connection on your UVC.

My first CPS replacement was the NAPA component and it died after less than 100 miles.

here are the DTC codes -
#01 - P1211 - ICP Not Controllable
#02 - P0344 - CPS intermittent bank 1/1
#03 - P0603- Internal Ctrl Mod KAM Error

does replacing the piece of crap Napa CPS with the part from Ford fix this?

Pretty much. Nothing worse than a POS.

The cps is located on the front of the engine..You can see it if you crawl under the engine, on pass. side front, above the main pulley and near the water pump you will see it.. There is a metal angle bracket attached to the sensor and it is held in with a 10 mm bolt. After removing the bolt, just pry the sensor out, after removing the electrical connector. For more info (bookmark this link) see:
http://www.7point3.com/mods.aspx
The sensor p/n's in the above link are out dated.. Go to Ford and get a F7TZ-12K073-B. It is Grey in color.. Should be less than $30.
