Ive been trying to figure out my mess of a carburetor for months now, and Im getting sick of it never running right. So, I think its time to start all over with a new carb. I was thinking of converting to 4bbl and running either a 600cfm holley or Edelbrock 1404 carb, which do you guys prefer? Also, What intakes to you guys run? I just want it to run right, and the 2150 I have now has been nothing but trouble. Also, what will I have to do with my vacuum lines? Its a 84 f250 2v 351W. TIA.
Carbs get 95% of the blame for OTHER system failures. You must make sure timing, advance, ignition, etc. are working properly before you can isolate the carb as the problem.
I prefer the holleys, just because I am more familiar with them, but the eldelbrocks are good too.
If I can find a stock 4bbl manifold, I usually run them. I am not out to win races, and the stock ones work fine for low end power.
Most of the vacuum lines can leave. I am assuming you have a non-computer ignition setup. If you do have a computer, then you are going to have to change the ignition too. The only vacuum lines you really need are the brake booster, one going to the vacuum manifold on the firewall, one going to the dist, one going to the PCV valve, and I like to run the original aircleaner for heat to the carb, so that's another couple of vacuum lines.
