I've got a 1979 F350 400/C6 4WD that is missing smog equipment. I'm trying to figure out what came on the truck for use in California. The hood decal is gone
so I can't check that. Thanks...
Found a sticker on side of hood, engine is actually 351 not 400 as I was told. It says Non Catalyst Model E
Evaporative Purge System
EGR/AIR
What I need is a book or pics to determine what is missing and needs to be replaced to get this truck legal in California. It has a non-egr aftermarket manifold and a Holley 4 bbl. I think it needs a Motorcraft carb and the anti-decel valves and hardware and maybe an EGR plate under the carb and the factory air cleaner. I'd like to save the truck, it's a little rough but only has 27,000 miles on it. Thanks for your help....
Ditch the non EGR manifold, that will flunk you right away. ONce you look on the front of your valve cover, and post up what you see, Dennis can tell you exactly what you need. Otherwise, go here, guess what you have, and install it. http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us...rInfoPages.htm

Welcome to FTE
Dennis (Mil1ion) can tell you what you need....maybe...because CA smog emission parts are NOT the same as what's used in the other 49 states and Canada. Even the ignition module is different.
CA smog emission parts are specific to CA.
BUT, if you live near me...
Where in CA are you located? I can look at your truck, tell you exactly what's missing, and furnish the part numbers too. I'm in Los Angeles County, just north of Whittier.
I have the correct 1973/79 Ford Truck Parts Catalog.
Are you aware (prolly not) that in CA, it's the SELLERS responsibility to make sure the vehicle passes smog?
That's right...whoever you bought it from has to pay for the parts & labor in order for the vehicle to pass a smog inspection.
Sellers: Ignorance of the law is no excuse.
btw: You'll need all the smog pump parts too.

I'm in Palmdale, up here in the High Desert. The smog pump is there with a couple of hoses on it. There is a can located near the battery. The intake was missing when the truck was bought by my son. It was used on his property in the desert so they just put the Edelbrock manifold and Holley on it. I got the truck for free from my son so I can hardly insist he smog the thing. I'd hate to part out the truck if I can't get it smog legal. I have a full on mud truck so all I want this truck for is to tow and parts runs. So a stock engine with the correct smog equipment on it isn't a bother. I can take some digital pics and post them to you by email to save you a trip of 70-75 miles one way. Thanks......

I'll meet you half way if you like....somewhere in the S/F valley. Or you can email me the pics.
I'm experienced with all this CA smog crappola, because I was a Ford parts man in Los Angeles for 35 years.
At the rear of the engine you'll need a head to head cross pipe with the smog pump check valve. You'll also need the smog pump air bypass valve, all the EGR parts, correct aircleaner and carb, evaporative emission system, d-cell valves and diaphram, vacuum lines hooked up correctly. Under the hood = It's a plumbers nightmare. What would be your best bet is to find a like truck in a wrecking yard and take everything off.
A truck in a wrecking yard = was it sold new in CA? Look at the trucks Rating Plate...located on the left door face near the latch for the DSO code: 71 or 72 is CA.

The truck isn't movable right now, but I'll take some pics this weekend and email them to you. About 30 years ago I was a line mechanic at Town & Country Ford in Reseda and the dealer in Canoga Park the name escapes me. Any help you can help getting this truck legal is much appreciated. Thankfully it is a non catalyst truck, that will save me a couple of dollars. Do I post the pics here or to your personal email?

LOL...30 years ago, Jack Boardman was the parts manager at T&C. Jimmy Davis was the service manager. I knew both quite well...30 years ago, I was at Crenshaw Motors.
I'll get the numbers off the hood decal and see if the valve cover decal is there tomorrow night and post them. Thanks for the help and info, it's starting to look like I may get this thing legal after all.
IMO, a smog guy wont care if a carberator has a DIVE-6015 part number on it, or a PH-8A, the guy straight up will not give a crap. He will look in his book, read a bunch of abreviations, look to see if he thinks the stuff is hooked up correctly, and will issue a pass or fail based on what he sees. This is a sneak peek at what the guy will use to figure out what you have. (I don't have the abreviations scanned, so you are on your own to figure it out.)
