Somebody dumped a ford six cylinder engine in the ditch in front of my house and I need help identifying it. The bore is give or take 3.7" and the stroke is about 3.9". These two figures seem to match up to a 250. The intake and exhaust manifold are on the left side of the engine (standing behind it), and the distributor is on the right side. This is backwards from the pictures of 300's, 200's, ect., but I can't find a picture of a 250. If anybody can help me, it would be greatly appreciated. By the way it's got electronic ignition (non points type distributor).

Never heard of the Chrysler 258. It is not a slant six or you woiuld have ID'd it pretty quick, so I assume it must be pretty old. Is it a flathead or OHV? Just curious.
Ok, tell me I need to get a life. But I had nothing better to do at midnight last night than to research this thing. My limited info on Chrysler/Dodge tells me they were running 218 and 230 cid flathead sixes at least into the late 50s (some say the Power Wagon had the flathead into early 70s) and a 251 cid flathead six in the W300 4x4 up to at least '60 '61. Then it appears the slant six was their first OHV six, and only (as far as I know) inline OHV six. But I hope you weren't talking about V6s all this time !
