The starter started acting up on my truck tonite, it may be just solenoid related, but, if I pull that thing off of there, I'm putting a new one on.
I think there's a Mitsubishi on there, I'll have to look again. Doing a bit of digging, the later Nippon Denso unit gets good reviews, but, looking at the specs, the Mitsu is 3.6KW(4.8 HP), while the Denso unit is 2.5(3.35 hp).
Just curious what you guys have to say, I've never had to change out an IDI starter other than a Delco before... LOL
I run a brand new ND mini gear reduction starter. I bought it off ebay for $135 to my door step. WOW, those are nice and I'm glade that I went in that direction is all I can say.....
It's funny to read this since I've been looking at replacing mine too. I think I'm going with the Mitsu from Napa which they warranty. Plus after core charge it only cost 50-60 bucks.
If you want brand new there are always some on ebay...... Mitsu that is. My OEM was a Mitsu I figured it went 10,000 plus starts can't ask for better than that.
I bought a new Mitsubishi from NAPA many years ago.
At the time it was close to 400 dollars with a lifetime warranty.
I lost count now, but I think I am on my fourth free starter as of this past summer.
I was just looking at NAPA online a couple nights ago.
A remanufactured Mitsubishi was 254 dollars, plus the 110 dollar core charge till you return the old one.
RAY446265 is that part number if I am reading it right.
Our local store has their parts online, I can see now if they have one in stock.
But the web page is a bit funny to figure out what price and number goes with which item.
As I am reading it right now, it looks like they have a new one in stock for 221 with no core listed.
