I have the factory upfitter switches on my 2005 and I'm wondering about the wiring for these. I found where the wires terminate in the engine compartment so I'm good there, just have to figure out which color wire goes to what switch. There seems to be a good amount of info out there on that so I'm sure I can get the info. What I can't get a handle on is what additional wiring needs to be done with the switch. I've seen a lot of posts about dropping the fuse box and hooking up the pigtails in there to the upfitter switches.
I'm assuming that these wires are already wired into the fuse box, correct? So the question is that the only wiring that would need to be done would be from the firewall to whatever I'm hooking up and then from the bundle over the fuse panel to the upfitter switch, right?
The wires behind the fuse box are already hooked up to the upfitter switches. They will have 12V+ whenever the switches are turned on (and the ignition is turned on). The 4 wires that you found in the engine compartment are simply pass-thru wires. They are blunt cut on both sides. You can hook these up to the upfitter switch wires to run the power through the firewall to your accessories outside the cab. Ford did ths so you wouldn't have to drill your own holes for pass-thru wires (although I would have preferred it if they would have just given us a nice big hole with a grommet to let us use however we want).
