My input shaft and torque converter broke on my truck this weekend and tranny shop told me to remove 6 pos chip. If all yall are running them what safe ways are yall doing this? I had a bull dog shift kit and he removed it and put in a transgo reprograming kit. Just some input here would be nice i can't afford to do this tranny job again but i do like running in the the high setting and whoopin my buddies cummins.
2000 F250 6637, ccv, 6 position chip stk,50,75,100,extreme, valet, guages thats it. The truck broke in the Extreme setting. What a sad thanksgiving it was it got towed by a duramax
I take it's not a DP-TUNER chip. Don't know about your chip, but the dp chip also tunes the trans. And a BTS-VB would help with the shifting and keeping it cooler. If you search for post about this tuner and valve body you will find tons of good comments about both. Shame you couldn't get a BTS built trans. You wouldn't have to worry about it again.
If your trans guy already put in a transgo shift kit you already have a bts valve body for all intents and purposes so don't waste your money replacing what you have.
Now exactly what were you doing when you broke it, might make a difference. But the one thing you can do to prevent this from happening again is replace the input shaft with a hardened unit, this is what all the trans builders do including BTS, JW, factory tech, sun coast etc and I know you can get that shaft separately from FT, and Sun Coast not sure if the other 2 will sell it separate as it's one of their "proprietary" parts
Edit to add. I just checked on a couple web sites, FT just says you can buy components but not what they are, but sun coast has the billet hardened input shaft listed at $235

i turned out of the drive way and got on it and it just let loose if i did a new input shaft would i have to do a different torque converter i think the one he got me was just hd stock kind
the input shaft is a direct drop in replacement part just made with better steel and hardened so you wouldn't NEED to replace the TC, but if he got you a stock replacement type then I sure would look into one of the billet multi clutch units or check with John Wood about using the later I think it's 6.0 converters as supposed to be stronger the stock ones and a little cheaper then the after market billet unit.
Personally over this winter I am switching mine out for a precision industries stallion which is a billet triple disc clutch unit and about the best one you can get.
