Hi I have a 1989 Ford with a 4.9L. Has anyone made there own cold air induction kit, I think K&N wants to much for their kits. Would making the air intake hose bigger give me more Horse Power. The intake hose on there now splits into two 2" hoses. Would making these hoses bigger, like around 3" diameter help give the engine more air to breath. Any comments welcome.
I will say one thing, I don't think you would do any damage so if you feel creative go for it. As far as larger tubes it couldn't hurt although if you were to install tubes that were smooth and not accordian shaped it should make some difference. I will share my thought, you can purchase a k&n filter for $25-30 they are pretty cheap for the six's as a matter of fact the cheapest I believe of the filters. Their is a tube that runs from the bottom of the filter housing out the front of the vehicle I would take it off as I have done install the filter and then run some smooth tubing from the intake to the filter housing and it should make a slight difference, due to even flow in my opinion, just don't expect much if anything to be realistic with whatever you do. Good luck, if you create something post pix it is always nice to see what others can come up with again good luck
i made my own not to long ago i think its still on the second page you'll notice it, its tiled did any one think of doing there own, i've got pics on there. i basicly took pvc with a y on one end going to a rubber fitting to a cone filter and on thwe other end ran the two pvc pipes into rubber fittins onto the intake. i put the stock box back on because i failed emmisions once but it turned out it got worse with the stock and i think im gonna change out the pvc for some rubber flex hose for the whole thing
i cant post pics in here i cant find the click here thing for it but i do have pics else were its under did anyone think about making there own induction kits or sumthin like that. ill edit my gallery tho and put em in there with pics of the truck
