According to superchips website the 1714 is for 2004 and the 1745 is for 2005.
I buddy of mine gave me a Superchips Max MicroTuner 1745. It says its for the 2005 f150 v8 gas engine. He used it on his 5.4. I have the same body truck and engine except that mine is a 2004. We hooked up the tuner and it didnt give any errors and was able to tune my trucks computer. Man what a difference it makes.
I asked tech support at superchips if it was OK to use on my 2004 and they said that the tuner would have given me an error saying it was incompatible with my truck and would not have let me tune it. Since it didnt they think for some reason I may have a new computer and that is should work just fine.
I guess my question is, do you guys know of any difference in the computers or engines of the 2004 & 2005 F150 5.4 that would make you skeptical of using it?
According to my door sticker my transmisison code is "B", which is not found in the 2004 truck manual. That code is however found in the 2005 truck manual. So I am assuming then that it must have gotten a new version of the transmission and that the computer must also be newer in order to handle any new changes there may have been with this new transmission. It took me a while to find that transmission code so i hope this helps other people that have been looking for code B. I found it on fords fleet site under the owner manual for 2005 f150 page 303
they probably say that b/c of the 2004 heritage model, which is pretty much identical to the 03 and earlier. you're safe though, the 1745 is the right one.
Not to steal the thread, but I am looking at purchasing a superchips tuner made for a 2004. I own a 2006, will this work? I didn't want to hook it up because superchips told me the computer was different. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Ski
