1bbl rebuild tips?
However, after I got the bike loaded and went to start the truck up to head back, it had a hard time starting. I got it going by pumping the pedal several times while cranking.
I'm thinking I may have messed up by dumping a bottle of techron in with a full tank of gas before starting the trip. Maybe dislodged a few too many deposits.
Anyhoo, the truck starts fine now, so I'm thinking it's probably due for a carb rebuild.I bought a new float and a rebuild kit from Advance. Does anyone have any pointers towards doing a rebuild on this little 1bbl? I'd sure appreciate hearing them.
Happy Holidays everyone!
TIA,
Dan Beggs
The main thing is, TAKE YOUR TIME. Disassemble everything and soak it overnight in carb cleaner. Get a gallon of this from your favorite auto parts store.
Prepare a CLEAN surface. I use a bedsheet.
Lay everything out according to the diagram that comes in your rebuild kit.
Put the new parts next to the ones you will replace. I then clean everything with a toothbrush in very hot water with dishsoap. Start putting it (SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY) all together.
It's a good time to replace your fuel and air filters, too -- enjoy your project!

So slow and methodical is the way to go - cool. That's how I work all the time anyway.

Thanks again,
Dan
Anyone got a clever way of going about this that I may not be aware of?
I turned the cap with the engine cold (bout 25 degress outside) until the butterfly was just shut, then gave her another notch towards the rich side, which was about a quarter inch. I'm getting like a dead spot as I shift into 2nd and 3rd. (Four on the floor) I t bogs and if I back off the throttle a bit she smooths out. It does get better as the engine warms up but never quite disappears.
I've made four more adjustments since, each time giving her about a quarter inch more towards the rich side. I don't seem to be getting rid of it.
Any ideas?Thanks Motor_Craft
