So, I went to play volleyball at a church tonight with a league I am on. My friend and I come out and I unlock the doors with the keyless entry. I hop in and he tries to open the door but it doesn't work. Then I hear a rattle sound of something falling inside the door. I just figure something broke in the handle. I open the door from the inside and it works fine.
We drive to Taco Bell and on the way out I go and check his door to see what's up. That's when I notice it looked like someone got a chisel and hammer and smashed in the lock on the door. That's great!
I am driving down the road and think to myself 'I wonder if they tried my door too'. Sure enough they did. My lock is punched in but didn't fall off.
Has anyone had this happen before? What am I in for? I haven't even really looked yet. It has been too dark.
Hey Matt, I have read on here that that is an easy way to break into these trucks. The locks pop out pretty easy. There were some threads on this awile back. I'm thinking about a year or so ago.
Man, if your truck ain't safe at a church, where is it safe?????
im sorry to hear that. the locks on these trucks are not very safe. you can also get in by shoving a screw driver under the plastic molding around your handle and pushing upwards, i had to do this when i locked my key in my truck when i was at college.
I'm waiting for some enterprising company to bring out a set of steel or perhaps billet aluminum replacment door handles to eliminate the problem. So far, no one has. Stupid, these plastic door handles!!!!
i hate people who steal, i mean wtf! what sucks is no matter what you do, a thief can get into your truck/car, we all have to accept that. The best solution, not an alarm, jimmy jammer, etc, just dont leave anything of value inside (or at least in plain sight). This is why i dont own nice electronics such as a cd player, because they cost a lot, they break, and get stolen. Costing you tons of money and a headache in the end. I just use my stock cassette player and tape adapter with my ipod, and it works great, i just take the ipod with me when i leave the truck! no worries!
you could always leave some deterants in there to suggest you may F*** up who ever tries to break in. i used to have an 86 escort, with a really nice cobra radar detector and an good cd player. i used to leave a few pocket knives on the dash and i also had my pool stick and case in the back seat, kinda looked like it could of been holding a shotty, i never had any one try and break in. then again it could of also been because the car was such a POS no one may have given it a second look! did you fix your locks?
I read a good post quite a while back about someone who superglued razor blades to the back of his sterio head unit since they kept breaking in and stealing it - one day he came out there to find blood all over the ground by his truck, can't remember if they left the unit there or not - but he said they left his truck alone after that! I wouldn't go to such measures since I'd hate to clean up after that - but surely serves the guy right!! I hope he lost a finger or two!
Not yet. It is a company truck...my Dad's to be exact. I am actually calling the dealer tomorrow to find out what it will cost to replace them. May put it through insurance depending on the cost. I believe there is no deductible.
Humm this is going around, the news keeps reporting gangs are doing this in less than 20seconds punch the locks in and out, This just happened to my F550 work truck, it cost $340.00 for the new locks and tumblers and a key cut and installed, I have since put a VIPER alarm with shock sensors and a LOUD speaker all over the truck..It might slow them down but not stop them..They just better hope I dont ketch them .I have over $30,000 in tools on my service truck and stay in motels a bunch..its better than nothing which is how the F550 is easy to get into...and by the way the COPS in america have given up they do nothing so the crooks have won again..good luck..
That sucks. I went to the dealer today and it is going to cost $75 per door for new handles. I would think the door locks themselves would still be OK so i didn't order them. I just have to find them in the bottom of the doors.
Will let you guys know how it goes when the new parts come in on Tuesday.
