Hello: Can anyone explain why I seem to have alot of moisture buildup in my inline 6. I change the oil every 5000km.Every time I go to check oil and ad oil there is alot of white goo under the oil cap and at the bottom of dipstick. Any idea;s?
hi there...fear not, for I have had the same problem in the past. While any reputable repair manual will state that white "goo" under the valve cover cap and on this dipstick is a sign of a blown head gasket, chances are, it is not. To rule this out...have you been slowly loosing coolant? (other than any known leaks of course ) If not, there may not be any problem.
I had the same experience last winter (Same engine) when I was doing only short trips. The truck never really got up to temperature to sucessfully evaporate all of the condensation that forms from cold winter air and thus you have moisture in the engine. Anyway, I traced the problem to not only my short - trip driving, but a thermostat that had failed in the open position (better than the alternative for sure) thus preventing the engine from ever reaching opperating temperature.
I have also heard that these motors run cool anyway, and this is a normal occurence. So if this sounds anything like what you are experiencing; cold air, short trips, or perhaps a faulty thermostat, there may not be much to worry about. Keep up the frequent oil changes
Thanks for the idea's . I'm not loosing any coolant whatsoever. The temp gauge and engine temp seems to be hot enough. I will keep up regular oil changes for sure.I just bought this truck so I can only presume that it may take a while for it to clear.Thanks.
By the way do you know where on the dipstick the oil should be.There are 3 marks. One is add, which is obvious and the other is safe line and the last is a circle just above safe.Do you go to the circle or safe mark? Mike
This is not uncommon. The tin areas of an engine will condense moisture during cool/cold weather Fords have always been notorious for this. Also it will show up more if your oil is a parffin based verse asphalt based.
