Hey out there. Son got his permit and I have determined that the truck is too fast. the vin plate says it should have the 360 2bbl but this one has a 4 bbl carb and is way, way faster than the the last 360 equipped model I drove. I looked all over for a casting # on the block but can not find one. I even pulled the starter just to check. There is a date code that looks like 1E7 but the 1 is questionable. There is of course the 352 stamped on the left front of the block and an 11 next to that. The block has external ribs down both sides but the mains are not cross bolted. It has press in rather than screw in freeze plugs. the heads has a C4ME and what looks like a 6090G number next to that. The truck is a 68 F-250 2wd with a C-6 auto and Dana 60. Any ideas as to what block this is? Thanks for any input.
I forgot to add that I found a small aluminum plate riveted to the right front of the block that shows this engine has been machined. it says
BORE- .040
MAIN- .010
ROD- .010
The date code is 71/May/7th. Pretty common to not find a casting number. Ribs were common to find from 71 on. Although there are some earlier blocks from 68 on that have them too. As far as what it is? You can easily check the crank stroke and get a pretty good idea. But you'd really need to remove a head and measure the cyl bore to be certain what bore the block is. The heads are 64 lowrisers and very good heads. It could be one of a few different combos.
Sound like an over the counter service block to me?!
It could very well be Wes. Could be production also. At least the tag tells what the bore and crank journals are at. You'd have to see if that's changed from when it was last rebuilt.
I bet it is going to be a 360 or a 390 more then likely. Pull the #1 plug and use a very clean dowell. Measure the stroke. if it is about 3 1/2" then it is a 360 but if it measure out to 3 3/4" then its a 390. If it measures about 4" then its either a 410 or a 428 depending on bore sizes(Not so likely).
I have not measured the stroke yet but will try to tonight. I am at work still so all the info I have so far is what I remember from looking things over this weekend. I'll get back to you all though and, as always, appreciate any and all input. THANKS!

My Uncle has a 69 Mach1 small block car, that "The Poor Mans 427" is going in. We have a Big Shaft Top Loader with Hooker Super Comp headers (2 1/8" primaries I do believe). We have a 1050 Dominator to throw on it and see what happens at the drag strip LOL.
Wow!!!! 69 Mach is a sweet ride!! Nice choice for the engine! I was wondering where it would go. They are nice cars!! Sounds like a blast!! You guys have some nice toys!!

I wouldn't say nice now LOL. We start off with junk and make it nice LOL. Would that be called nice junk then LOL???? Look we used junk to put together "The Poor Man's 427". I guess we make the best out of what we got LOL. Otherwise I couldn't afford it to be honest with ya........Thanks for the kind words Glenn!
Well Wes after seeing pics of a few of your rides they are far from junk!! I'm sure this one will be just as nice. Please keep us posted on this one!
You BET Glenn! I will keep you (or you guys) posted on it. We need to find time to get it done. And I'm sure you know how that is LOL. And moooore money!!!!LOL
