Today I noticed I have lost directional control of my heat into the cab. The heat works, as well as the blower - the heat is directed to the windshield (defrost position). This has just happened and I have not started my trouble shooting. Thought someone here may have experienced something similar. I am guessing either a fuse or vacuum issue. The good thing is that I still have heat, so, it isn't a MAJOR issue at this point in the winter.
Vacuum leak caused by your auto/lock vacuum operated 4x4 hubs. Did this happen after you engaged the 4x4 switch?
What I did:
Junk the OE hubs, install WARN Premiums, plug the vacuum nipple at the hub assembly, rip out the vacuum lines all the way to the pump, plug off the vacuum ports (for 4x4 hubs) at the pump (passenger side fender well).
I haven't actually used my 4x4 switch for on the road use. However, when I was checking the instrument cluster system by viewing the odometer, I switched the 4x4 switch from the 2-Hi position to the other two positions and back to the 2-Hi position just for the heck-of-it. How would that have any effect on the function of the air flow direction switch?
The two systems are tied together in the diesels because we have a vacuum pump to operate both. This is because there isn't a steady source of vacuum like there is on a gasser. If you have a bad vacuum pump, or a leak (usually at the hubs -- hub seals or lines), there isn't any vacuum to operate the heater/AC doors. The temp blend door is cable driven, so that one will still work.
