Smile Excellent camera

I have the factory rear camera set up in my 08 F350. The camera mounts in the tailgate handle. The rear view mirror (in cab) changes when I place the truck in reverse. The left hand corner of the mirror becomes of the rear view camera, then disappears when you deselect reverse. There are green, yellow and red lines to show how close you are. I can place the hitch right on the ball every time no problem. Beats the heck out of the rear distance beepers and the chirper (wife). The factory rear view camera is well worth the price. Sorry don't know how to place pictures on the site.

The unit for 169.00 come with the rear view mirrow ..Dont see how that will clutter up your dash....
You have a rear view mirror now! (Looks juts like the one that comes on the trucks.....

However if you install a new radio with a DVD screen option...Slides in & out of the radio when you play video ..Then you can use that screen..The camera by itself is 99.00 with the rear view mirror kit 169.00

Guys, here are the part numbers for the minimum # of components you'll need to install the camera into a vehicle that doesn't have one---

These numbers don't contain the prefixes or suffixes (ie, xxxx-19G940A-xx for the camera) but any competent Ford Parts employee should be able to look these up for you.

14B562 Rear Wiring Harness for Camera
14334 Cab/Roof Wiring Harness
17700 Electrochromatic Mirror w/Video
19G940A Rear Video Camera
99431B82 Tailgate Latch Handle for Rear Video Camera

It will be necessary to purchase both the 14B562 and 14334 wiring harnesses, as pigtail connectors are not available for either of these components.

I will first say that this should NOT be attempted without at least moderate knowledge in basic wiring.

I've uploaded the wiring diagrams to our website, please click at the bottom of the post. You will need to download the Adobe SVG Viewer to see the files (and you'll have to be using Internet Explorer too, they won't open on Mozilla Firefox). Also, opening these files may trigger blocked content and some errors; just OK all the errors and authorize the blocked content warning.

It really isn't feasible to try to use ALL factory wiring, since there are about 12 different harnesses that would have to be changed depending on build date and configuration of the truck.

The Video + and Video - signals from the camera at the tailgate need to be connected to the mirror screen. If you already have the electrochromatic mirror, the to video connections and the corresponding ground (you can ground it anywhere) will be all that's needed to connect to the mirror itself. If you only have the basic mirror, you will need to connect a switched hot power source to the mirror along with the compass + and - connections out of the back of the instrument cluster----

The compass wires are- Blue w/Grey Stripe for the positive
Grey w/Blue Stripe for the negative
Simply tap into these wires at the back of the instrument cluster, route, and connect to the mirror.

As for the camera itself, you will need to route the Video + and Video - wires (white/green and brown/violet) from the camera at the tailgate to the mirror inside. The camera will also need a switched hot power source (you can use the same one as used for the mirror if preferred- just make sure it is fused high enough for both) and a ground out of pin 6 of the connector. The other black wire at the camera connector is the video shield (do NOT get the ground and shield wire crossed up- reference the connector pinout I linked to). This wire needs to run the full length of the video + and - wires, but will connect to nothing at the end, so just tape it up before the mirror.

The last connection will be the reverse lamp relay connection to the mirror; which will activate the screen itself when the truck is put into reverse. The easiest place to tap into this is from the Green/Brown wire coming from the back of the Battery Junction Box under the dash, behind the reverse lamp relay (see associated link for the diagram).

It would be far too detailed to try to explain the proper routing of the wires- common sense will be needed here. They simply have to reach from the mirror, through the interior, to the frame rail and to the rear of the truck. The wiring MUST be routed through the holes in the hinge pins on the tailgates to avoid damage to the wiring as the tailgate opens and closes.

Here are the links to the wiring diagrams:

PSD 60L Fx4: Thanks for the good post.

Now sombody needs to find prices for all those part numbers. Unfortuently as you know Ford doesn't help out their customers when they price their parts. So this looks quite expencive.

Ok guys so I have some car A/V experience and have been looking into a solution for us Job 1 guys that have aftermarket head units and would like to utilize this camera. My alpine requires a simple RCA video connection, however as Matt stated the outputs of the camera is a +/- two wire design, I have not seen the wire diagram as I cannot get it to open on my PC. Radioshack PN# 42-2449 takes a +/- connection and converts it to an RCA signal. On an RCA Jack the outer flange is normally the + and the inner lug is the -. Does anyone know if there would be any problems in the signal conversion from the camera to the head unit? I have never encoutered this before........

I have it and I love it. When I get back home I'm having a local audio shop add a second camera to my headache rack that will allow me to see my goose neck ball. Flip an upfitter switch attached to a relay and switch from one camera to another! It will be a month or so before I have time to get it done but I will post pics when it's complete.

What about us poor slobs with Job1 trucks with the factory NAV unit? I'd really like a backup camera that shows up on my NAV screen, preferably one that I can hook up to the rear of my fiver.

Thats not possible, the factory NAV unit doesn't have a Camera input. But as Matt has stated you can purchase the parts separate and install them yourself. If you can install exhaust or an intake on your truck and have common knowledge of wiring it is fairly simple and straight forward. I have the camera, tailgate latch, and tailgate harness on order I will post piuctures and instructions on how to install it to a aftermarket head unit.

I have a question for you guys that have the factory camera. What happens when you need to remove the tailgate. Since the camera in installed into the tailgate is there any wire to disconnect when you remove the tailgate and if so is it pretty simple to do? Thanks

Has anyone had their dealer give them pricing for the dealer installing the camera on a Job 1 truck? If so, how much?

If you can, get it factory. Not much to include for a photograph. The camera is directly above the tail gate latch. It plays on the windshield rear view mirror. I pounded out my license plate, and cannot wait to back up to one of my trailers.
I have both the alarm and the camera, factory. My wife has a LEXUS and I like the FORD system better. Here is why. You get a field view that shows a green area, an amber area, and a red area. I can only tell you what the salesmen told me, and I have not verified, BUT when you back up it views the distance from the obstruction and you actually see the distance from say 9 feet, green; 6 feet amber; and, 3 feet and less red. NEAT
Mine is long bed, 22'-4" long and 172" wheel base. If you are going to order a truck, this is from heaven.
