[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Jan-02 AT 03:09 PM (EST)]well i just took a peak under my truck to change the oil and well.. it appears that i have a pretty good oil leak. I am no big engine buff or trouble shooter. The oil seems to be isolated to the left passenger side. it isnt blowing on the exhaust. The oil is coating the starer and the tranny. is the leak coming from the gasket on the oil pan?.. I think it is, but i'm not sure. If it is I will have to take the motor out and replace it? It isnt REAL bad, but i would rather get to it early before it causes any damage. the truck is a 88' f150 w/ I6 & 5 speed od. thanks to all who help. ps: i have been having good oil pressure.
It could be your motor mounts. The motor mounts on those model trucks are liquid filled and can bust over a period of time or from motor stress. They sell solid replacements along with the liquid filled OE. just my 2 cents, hope it helps
if you say that it is all over the starter then I wouldn't think that it is your oil pan because the starter is above the oil pan. the only thing that is above the starter is the intake/exhaust manifolds, but oil shouldn't be coming from them unless you have some MAJOR problems. or it could be the valve cover gasket. is the oil running down the side of the block?
if it is the oil pan gasket you shouldn't have to pull the engine, just drop the pan to the chasis and carefully work a new gasket around the oil pump pickup and into place. not too dificult.
