I have been looking for a 99 - 02 F-350 4x4 with a Powerstoke 7.3 & a six speed. Dually seem to bea lot more common, but I don't want a dually living on a ranch beacause the outside tires seem to alway be flat from being out in the brush on "two track" roads. Whatever I get I will put a flatbed on, so the bed will not be a problem. What would be required to turn a dually to SRW? Would I need different spindles? Any input would be helpful. Thanks very much!
I THINK that you can just remove the spacers on the front, change the rear hubs, and you have an SRW. Not even sure changing the rear hubs is necessary.
Although, I think you might have to change the wheel bearing (big $) if the face of it won't match the rim.
It's doable.
Let's let more people answer though before you go and shell out money, OK?
I would like to put on regular wheels & tires so they match my stock trailer. I also like the looks of a SRW better but they've disappeared off the face of the earth here unless they have over 200k & the everliving you know what beat out of them. Or unless they're a dually.
I know I had a 91 F-350 flatbed 4x4 SRW & we put duals on it to move a single wide. It seemed alright for a temporary job, but that was also drum & not disc brakes. Aren't the rear brakes different on a SRW than a dually?
