Fuel Filter

I'm tryin to change the fuel filter on my girlfriends 2001 F250 with the 5.4, and i cant figure out how to get the lines to come off the filter, by looking at the new filter it looks like they should just pull off, but I pulled pretty hard on them and they wouldn't budge. If somebody could give me some help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I think that the line is under pressure and you have to relieve it... someone with more experience should jump in...

you have to pull your fuel pump fuze in your engine bay. In my v10 it is the one at the top left hand corner in the box.
Im sure some one can give you the number fuze.

now start the truck, let it stall so fuel pressure is relieved.

YOU NEED a SPECIAL tool to take the lines off. go to autozone or pepboys, ask the parts counter they will show you. they come in diff. sizes, you need one of the smaller ones if not the smallest.

once you get the tool it will give you instuctions. you have to put it on the fullfilter metal pipe then push it in and under the quick connect fuel line. it will make sence while your doing it.

im sure some one can chime in.

have LOTS of rags, and where dirty clothes. gas will be all over.

Fuel line tool.

Shouldn't need to run the line dry. Just have the new filter ready to go back in. At any rate, have some rags handy and be safe about it.

Yup. I didn't do anything but get the stupid little helper tool. Splattered a little gas (as Bulldog said...have some rags handy!!!), but otherwise was fine. That stupid little tool is a stupid little PITA, but once you get it figured out, it works. It was also very tight getting back in the frame mount on mine. Just an awkward place to get any leverage.

id suggest relieving the pressure in the fuel line while doing it.. its going to be fuse #19 in the engine bay fuse box on my 2000 V10... start the truck and let it stall out... if the fuel filter has been there a while it could be a little difficult to get the teeth to releas off of the filter.. if you have a golf tee avialable use it to plug the first side of the old fuel filter you get out, it will make the job easier. also when your done dont forget to put the fuse back in before starting the truck. also turn the key to run 3-5 times to get some fuel back in the line then start the truck.. it might take a little longer to start because its still feeding the fuel but it will go... after you get it started let it run and check for any leaks.. all in all not that hard of a job after you do it once.

Put on some safety glasses also!!! Dirt falling off the frame in your eyes really sucks and while your trying to get it off you will most certainly shake it enough to get a drop of gas in your eye.
