Hey guys, after lookin at Bobby's cool lookin Poncho gauges, and CIAF's dash, got me to thinkin about my own dash cluster? I was wondering what gauges some of you guys are running, and if you have any pics of them? I LOVE the new SW gauges with the blue centers, but dont know how good they are. I know SW have been around since hotroding began, but I was wondering if they went the way the recent trend and got the stuff made over seas??
I found a place called the Hoffman Group, and was wondreing what kind of feedback you guys might have about that company? They allow you to custom make your own gauges. Which could be really cool!! If the gauges are any good? Anyway Please post some pics if you have some cool ideas. I'm goin to use a 56 Ford car dash when I get to that point, so I want some cool ideas??
Terry, I just got an order from the Hoffman group. They are a holding company that sells p/W window, solenoids, wire kits, flamethrowers, etc. under the names of other companies. Beware the shipping charges, I got bit 12.90 for a 1/4 lb. package ( envelope ) that cost 3.40 after they told me they only charge actual ship charge. They have the big 2 page ad in Rod & Custom Mag and CCT at times.
I like the "floating " dash concept where the gauge pack/cluster is mounted on, not in the dash itself since you would be able to use most clusters without any cutting or molding in. I mostly see them in Rod & Custom mag. Will try to get refs from back issues for you.

I saw a guage set in a 54 awhile back i thought was cool but haven't found anyone that sells them. They were off white vintage style with a Ford logo under the needles, Looked like it was embossed in. The guys wife was the only one i talked to, She said they were a bought set she just didn't know from where.

I am one of the few stock trucks around here. I am running the stock gauges as well. However, I added some autometer ones (without hacking the dash) since I didn't trust the factory ones.
I don't think a custom gauge dash would look right in a stock truck.
I monted VDO Vision guages into the stock locations. I liked the look of the stock guage panel, but wanted useful guages. It required alot of fabrication and almost completely tearing apart the VDO guages, but they fit and i think it looks cool. The only modification I did to the panel was slightly arch the tops of the holes for the fuel, oil, water, and voltage to better see the VDO numbers. I wish I had some pictures, but they are on my other computer. If anyones interested in this I can send photos in about a month as well as drawings of the mounting plates needed to mount the guages at the desired locations (so they can be seen through the original panel). The speedo was from a late model camaro and also fits into the stock location with the stock needle. It had about the same sweep as the original, thats why it was chosen.
I wanted to keep the stock look as well as use 12v. I found some proto-type guages at Mid-Fifty...they were a full set with senders made in the opposite color of stock, white background with black lettering. They look grear (paid apx. $140 for complete setup).
