My friend has a 2001 F250 he says it starts okay and runs fine for about 6 to 7 miles, then the "Service engine light" comes on and the truck starts to run rough, could this be the CPS?

that would be my bet..check for cades..if you cant.. then get a cps at a dealer..make sure its gray..should be around $25 give or take..
Would be great if you could read the fault codes using a scanner compatible to our powerstrokes.. To me it sounds like the famous under the valve cover wiring and or the 9 pin connector is loose..(poor design).. see my gallery pic's for the loose connector..
Where can I get one of these scanners you are talking about, Will it read all codes for the powerstrokes, could you recommend a good one that is not to pricey.
Don't really know if you can find a not too pricey one or not.. I like what i have. It is a tuner (has 4 different power ranges), plus it will adjust your shift firmness (if you have an auto trans) and will read powerstokes fault codes.. A great tool to have..Easy to use. on sale at $299, with free ship. Suggest the use of dash gauge however.. see the following link for more info.. http://www.xtremediesel.com/index.as...ROD&ProdID=143

Imwith you clintbonnie. Mine did exactly yhe same. The UVC will be a 4 hour job or so, I did glow plugs too. There is good info here on the UVC harness, search this forum and good luck.
Just wanted to let you guys know that my friend put in a new CPS first that didn't solve his problem, he took in and just like you guys said it was the connector under the valve cover.
Hey... Glad he got her fixed.. !! I bet there is thousands of powerstrokes on the road with the same problem just waiting to happen. Too bad though he had to take it in.. We could have stepped him thru the whole process.. Just curious, what was the repair bill?
