Cat Back Exhaust

I recently bought a 1999 F150 and retired my 79 F150 with a 460 so I can restore her. I would like to install a new cat back on my 99. I am looking for something that will exit in the rear, not interfere with my spare, and give me that big block tone. Here is what I have:
1999 F150, Extended cab, short bed, 5.4L, 4X4. Thanks for the help.

Cat Back Exhaust

I took my 98 STX to a local exhaust shop about 7 months ago and had them install a dual system on my truck,I get compliments all the time on how good my truck sounds. Make sure they use good mufflers {Flowmasters} and 2 1/2" pipe.It takes a couple of months for the system to get its true sound, but when it does it is great! Also make sure they split the system in to a true dual exhaust and not just a muffler with dual exits.I paid 300.00 for my system.
Good luck,
Dave

Cat Back Exhaust

The only way to get true duals is to cut or replace the y-pipe. Did you do that? Or just split the plumbing after the y-pipe and install 2 mufflers?

I had a 1 in 2 out muffler installed about 2 years ago with 2 pipes exiting just in front of the rear tires, passenger side. My muffler fell apart recently, so I went to remove the whole system and consider ordering a cat-back system. Just for grins, I fired it up with no muffler. I was amazed at how tolerable it was. Not obnoxious at all. It actually sounded good. My conclusion, there is already enough sound absorption in the catalytic converters. I went ahead and installed a glasspack I had laying around as a temporary fix, and now it's too quiet again. I guess I'm required to have someting under there that resembles a muffler to be legal.

Is anybody just running empty pipes after the cats?

Cat Back Exhaust

hey bud.Ive messed around alot with different kits for my exaust,The gibson kit was nice but was really not what i expected,to quiet.borla kit was pretty good to but had same deal with that.flow master kit was good and was the loudest of the three.keep in mind that in most cases when buying these cat back kits they split after the muffler into 2 pipes 2-1/2"and are all bolted together with clamps.i always liked the idea of rear exit duals.companies described allow for rear exit allowing room for trailer hitch and such which works out well and leaves room for your spare.as far as sound a good set of shorty headers make a big difference and also help out with performance.kits sell around 250-350. after bending up my last kit while offroading which was theflowmaster, I ended up at a custom exaust dealer who set me up with what i think was the best move i made.he cut in after the cats not eliminating the y pipe which helps out ballencing even flow therw system then ran 3" pips along eather side of truck into glasspacks and exeted just before rear wheels with chrome tips. the exaust sounds great unlike any 97-f150 ive heard and i havent been able to bend anything seeing that there out of the way.I DONT THINK I COULD BE MUCH HAPPIER. good luck !! hope i helped

Cat Back Exhaust

>I got a 98 truck like yours and i have a mean *** sounding exhaust system!! I took mine to a shop in Texas and i had them do this. First i got them to install my JBA headers that i bought and then from there i got them to install tru dual 3 inch pipes with two 40 series flowmasters and 5 inch hummer tips. It sounded good but i wanted more. So i took my truck back and got them to take out 2 of my catlyic converters out. Since Fords have 4 catlyic converters it is prefectly legal. Since i got them removed the truck sounds damn good and has that big block sound that u demand!! Hope that gave u an idea of what kind of system u want.
