My uncle found 4 gallons of unused anti-freeze (unopened) in the garage. It is 10-15 years old. Is this still usable?
In use, the additives wear out or dissipate. In storage, I wouldn't think so. However, I've been told that after a few years the corrosion resistance additives break down. I can't confirm or deny that, maybe someone else knows.
Keep me informed, my father is moving and has 3 1/2 gallons that is about the same age and unopened, he bought it for his T-Bird roadster but never finished the car. So it's just been sitting there.
I wouldnt be afraid of it, as long as it is onopened I would use it.
One thing I do know is when antifreeze was going bad in an older cast iron engine you would start to notice the color changing to rust. The rust inhibitors were broke down.
The newer cars with aluminum engines dont give this tattle tale sign, once a year I drain the radiator and refill with new antifreeze and flush it every 4th year. I spend more than needed on maintaining my cars but overall they are worth the investment.
