6 speed questions
my dad and i are going to be making a tow/speed truck hybrid out of an f100, and i was wondering if the afformentioned transmision would bolt to a 460, and be highway driveable
I don't know what year your F100 is, but the 6 speed is a MUCH larger transmission than some of the old 3 speeds. Bolting up to the motor may be your smallest problem.

Of course, you could also use a NP 435 or T19 4 speed. None of these trans will do all you want. The ratio spread on the 4 speeds is wide, leaving massive gaps. Similar on the 5 speed, but still gaps and not too high an OD.
Consider one of these trans with a GearVendor OD. 8 or 10 speeds.

I would guess that a NP435 and a Gearvendor unit would cost less than a proper 6 gear if one could be found.
Look far and wide.

Truck transmissions are not going to shift worth a crap for strip use. Car transmissions are not going to have the low first gear you want.
Here is a calculator to feed ratios and tire sizes into during your search.

what is the major importance of the granny gear? and do i really absolutely need it, seing as theres only 1 real hill on the way to my track, and i dont even have to stop on it, and one where i have 2 potential stops on the way back. will it be absolutely necisary?
on a side note, we plan on using to truck to tow an open trailer with a fox body dragster, so it wont be high weight, so the real question at this point is, are there any over drive car transmissions that can handle that much torque? it seems like all the tko's and t-56s only go up to 650, i dont have the truck or the engine at the moment, but i want to plan for a little more. also, will said transmission hold up to the weight of the truck plus the 4000 extra pounds of the trailer and car?
thanks for the help
As for the granny first, it saves the clutch on takeoff with max load. Also good in slow traffic with the big load.
about the granny first, again, and torque issues
a, i dont plan on towing more than about 4 grand in a car and trailer, would a t56 or a tko600 stand up to this, plus the weight of the truck
b i think im psyching myself out on the torque estimates, i think 600 is a good place to put it, once again,
under those circumstances, do i really need an underdrive?
sorry if im being stubborn, im not a quick learner.

you could use one fo those trans they should hold up but like said with the high 1st gear you would have to slip the clutch a bit to get going while towing but thats no big deal
check out this site for an upgraded tko 900

also you could use the zf5 since it has the granny 1st and the overdrive 5th and is plenty strong i have one in my 95 f150 with a 351w that i tow with all the time and like it but it doesnt shift as smoothly as a tko or t56 although you could still race it no problem
also you should be able to get a mid shifter for that so i would work in a truck nicely good luck
