no cool/ cold air

Hello everyone,

I have a 99 Eddie Bauer Expedition with 87k on it. I have the automatic climate control and I don't get any cool or cold air when I turn the temp down it blows warm/hot all the time. Any ideas what this could be? A temperature sensor of some sort? The engine temp is in the normal range. Do you think it could be anything other than a blend door?

Thanks,
Steve

My AC compressor went out in my 98, only blew hot air. I took it to a friend who kept refilling the ac until I found the money to replace the compressor. After that, blew cold as ice and still does, that was 6 years ago!

Yeah definitely sounds like your compressor is dead. Auto A/C repair center should be able to do it easy enough, if not still take a chunk of $$$. Good luck.

Could be a compressor, could be a blend dorr, could be something else. I'd first check and see if the compressor is turning and if the low side (return) line is cold. If this is the case, I'd say the compressor is fine.

Yeah, I'm pretty mechanically inclined Iwent to college for automotive so if it was the compressor i would do it myself. But I dont think it is the compressor, when I turn it to "vent" (which the air compressor is not used in this mode) it still blows hot. So I am thinking it is a blend door. I haven't had a chance to check to see how and if the compressor clutch is cycling but I will first chance I get. Its raining right now though.

Yes! I have heat!!!! The procedure went fine, 10 hours by myself. I used the "saws-all" method of removing the heater core by cutting the pipes from the inside and pulling out the hoses from the engine compartment. If I had not already known to look for a damaged blend door, I never would have seen it. In fact, the only way to see the damage on mine was to spread the flange apart with a screw driver to see it was cracked. I skipped all the optional steps and still had enough room to work with the dash just pulled out on an angle. If you have to remove the center console (I did) and you have electric seats, make sure you do this before you disconnect the battery. The seats have to move forward to get to the 2 screws in the back, but you'll want to move them back to give you room to work after the console is out. Good luck, stay patient.
