03 PSD Starting Problem 163k

Driving home tues. nite I kinda heard this winning noise. It was hard to hear though. I was doing 70mph. Got off the exit and was turning left, truck would only go about 40 mph i was couple miles from home. The closer i got to home the slower the truck went till it finally was going about 5 mph and only about 1,000 rpm at WOT. Pulled home with a chain, least it was only about 10 houses down. This morning changed fuel filters and it started but wouldnt rev very high only about 3,000 rpm and it was cutting out and kinda popping, maybe ran about 5 min till it started to build a little heat the rpms began to drop till the engine wouldnt rev up over 1,000 rpm and it died, wouldnt start back. Maybe hpop problem? I was wondering what that winning noise i was hearing on the interstate maybe the hpop pump itself? My snap on scanner wont read it all i have is a 2000 model cartriage. I tried this evening it was giving me a error code. When i was changing the ff underneath, i did notice maybe some oil leaking down the back of the driver side of the engine i am going to look at it closer tommorrow.

sounds like you have a icp sensor leaking on you. check your oil level and ad if neccesary. yes the pump may have gone bad but make sure everything else checks ok before you assume it is a pump.

YUP--BTH hit it on the head. Crankshaft position code is from extended crank times and will probably go away after the ICP is fixed.

Ive noticed my headgaskets are leaking too. I ve been noticing a little coolant loss and some white residoue around the overflow tank cap. I am probally going to go ahead and pull the engine and put head studs in rings and bearings too have crank polished.

what if coolant has been getting in the oil, it would be eating the bearings up

It is very rare for this to occur.

On the 6.0, the only reasonable place for oil and coolant to interchange is in the oil cooler. With oil pressure regulated at 80PSI, and cooling system pressure at 16PSI or less, it is almost always oil leaking into the coolant.

The icp sensor can be changed from either the top or the bottom. I prefer the bottom, because I can put the trucks on a lift. Without a lift, I might go through the top.

Have 156,000. Changed mine about 10,000 ago from the top. Had to ask my wife to connect the wire back together because the space is too small to work. Some people use something like a long screwdriver, but I had no luck. Good luck!
