Hello all! New to the forum, but have been "lurking" for awhile. I have a question about the DTC's on my truck. I have an '05 F-250 6.0 with a BullyDog Triple Dog combo, K&N intake and 4" Turbo-Back exhaust. I had some problems the past few days with what I think is gelling(Yes it's damn cold in Wyoming right now!). I checked my DTC's with the BullyDog and 2 were present. They were P0263 and P0341. Is there any cause for alarm? I'm new to diesels, so any input would help.
P0263 is a #1 cylinder contribution/balance code. P0341 is a camshaft position sensor code. 0341 I would totally ignore until I got the P0263 fixed. Are you having a long crank time to get it started? That sometimes makes it throw the CPS code. The CPS on the 6.0L's is extremely reliable. I have seen a lot of them changed for nothing because it was a common thing with the 7.3's, but not at all with the 6.0's. Your P0263 is likely from a bad injector. I just replaced one for the same code. The only way to tell for sure is let the dealer hook it up, unless you know someone with IDS. The other thing that might be happening is an HPOP problem. 05's are notorious for breaking the STC fitting, causing the high pressure oil system to leak or fail internally. You might want to remove the bullydog and Kill-it-Now air filter and let the dealership have it. You have a 5yr/100K engine warranty.
Thanks for the info. I'm guessing by the Kill-It-Now comment that the intake isn't the best to have. I kept all the stock stuff, so I'm going to put it back on and take the Bullydog out. On the way to work tonight a couple more codes came up P0266 and P1000. I saw that the P0266 was cylinder 2 problem, but didn't quite understand the P1000 code. Is there anything I need to do with the Bullydog except return the truck to stock (except throw it away!)? All the sugeestions are very helpful. Thanks!
I think that's a wise decision on your part. The stock filter isn't popular because it's such a pain to change and rather expensive to replace, but it's a GREAT filter and lasts a very long time. You get huge air flow through it and it's protection properties are unsurpassed. Strange that you got another contribution/balance code. The P1000 code is normally set when the batteries are disconnected for a short period of time or the vehicle is reflashed (tune change). Put the stock program back in and drive it for a couple of days and see if the codes come back. If they do then it's engine related, if not then it may be program parameters.
Thanks for all your help. I removed the K&N and Bullydog so I could take it to the dealer on Monday. It has a really rough idle and going down the highway it seems to surge and even has a little vibration under acceleration. Do you think it will be O.K. to drive around the next few days? Once again, thanks for all your help.
One question I didn't ask was about oil and oil changes. What type of oil are you running and how many miles on this change? Sometimes something as simple as an oil change can help immensly. Also, do you know if your truck has the buzz or inductive heating flash? Either of those will help with injector stiction/failure. If you don't know or don't have them you should consider having it done (if they don't do it) while your truck is at the dealership. Well worth whatever it costs to have it done--IMHO.
A "flash" is the program your trucks PCM has installed. The "buzz" flash was replaced by the inductive heating flash, both designed to prevent injector "stiction" which is a common injector failure on these engines. The spool valves stick and won't allow high pressure oil into the injector to "fire" it causing it to miss--usually when cold. Diagnosing bad injectors is difficult without being able to read codes or having the Ford IDS system available, and a bad injector won't always throw a code.
