Can someone recommend a decent "standard rotation" water pump for a 1987, 5.0 l, F-150 engine? I accidentally installed a reverse rotation pump which is giving me cooling problems. I believe that the Summit online catalog misrepresented a GMB-125-1670 water pump as a "standard rotation" pump while it is actually a "reverse rotation" style.
Rock Auto lists a Gates 43057 as a standard rotation pump, but I am very "gun shy" about purchasing another pump until somebody confirms the rotation direction!
Looked up that part number and it says its a oe direct replacement pump. Doesn't say anything about rotation direction either way. If it was available in reverse rotation then I think it would say what one it is.
I can't help but wonder why would they offer a reverse rotation pump for a ford truck to start with? That is if they do.
Ya stupid question but I'll ask. did you put the belt on the right way so the pump spins the right direction?
Your truck should have a reverse rotation water pump. A 5.0 with a serpentine belt should be reverse rotation. That is assuming your has a serpentine belt.
I ordered a "reverse" rotation pump for my Mustang from Summit(summit brand made by weiand at the time). It wasn't the right pump. I think their part numbers were reversed.
I would just order one from Ford. At least you know you will get the right one.
