New user, a lot of good info, but could not found answer to my question, please help. I have 2003 with 6.0L. My friend borrowed the truck and called me that engine overheated. I told him to let it cool and to the gas station to add some water. He called me back and said that oil is coming under pressure from overflow container. He made it back to my place, but oil level went down and got pretty thick in coolant system. Any ideas? Head gasket or oil cooler or any other ideas???? Any help is welcomed. Also getting P0272 Cylinder 4 Injector Circuit Contribution/balance Fault. Any idea?
Thank you all for your good heart and time.
Sounds like your engine oil cooler failed. Depending on your purchase date and mileage it could be covered under 5yr/100k engine warranty. It's a mess to clean your coolant system, but something like Cascade works well because of the low sudsing.
Thanks for your reply.
It has little over 150K miles, so sounds like I will end up doing all the fun work.
Hope you all have good Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Oil cooler really isn't THAT bad. It's probably harder getting the oil out of the cooling system. Check ebay for oil coolers since they are $750 from the dealership.
I would be worried abot the overheat part more than oil in the coolant . Oil coolers are know to go bad without overheating problems . The overheating may have caused the oil cooler to leak and that needs to be looked at first as it may be a more serious problem .
Thank you for your replies. As far as overheating goes, it is nothing major as my overflow reservoir was leaking little, but usually enough to go between oil changes. As far as oil cooler price – it bites. As far as getting oil out the coolant, I was told by the dealer to use “simple green” (not sure if I spelled it right) or some other mechanic told me to try diesel. I am at my in-law’s house and sick, but will be back on Monday and will see if I can figure it out. Will keep you updated.
