The 99 PSD truck I purchased had the Airbag light on when I bought it. The code is C1414 "Incorrect module design level". I have done the troubleshooting chart and tried two other Airbag modules out of both of my 2000 PSD's. Still get same code. Is this something that has to be reprogrammed if replaced. The previous owner changed out that one in there. I did not see in link in the wiring schematic that tied it to the PCM for a reason to need programming but I saw replacement bags and modules on eBay that come with VIN's for some reason?
You will probably have to get the module to communicate with the others, It is throwing the code because there was an error and it doesnt see the new module because the code is still there, you will probably have to clear the code and then update the system with the new module.
Thanks for the reply. How do I update the system? I have cleared the codes with my Snap-On scanner it stays off for a couple of seconds then comes right back. Did that with all three modules. Is updating something I will have to take it to the dealer for?
Probably, that scanner might be enough to clear the code but if the other modules dont see the new one it will throw the code back. The truck has to be "networked" with a laptop and ford software. They can do this at the dealer, and alot of times there are "as built" software for certain modules that they have had problems with in the past and will be able to update your truck. Just tell them to leave the powertrain module alone, if you like the way your truck runs it could alter it.
