Heres the deal i bought the truck out of state a couple days ago and need to run it through my local police station and get the vins checked b4 i do so. Thing is they wont even run it if they dont find 2 matching vins and the one in the door jam if off im guessing do to the new paint job. The one on the dash is fine and i mave the matching title so I think im all set but i need to find out if there are any other vin locations on the truck like on the engine block or somewhere on the frame or near the spear tire????? Any help would be great, thanks for taking the time to read.
The vin numbers you are asking about are called confidential vins. There are several general places to look, although I can not tell you exactly where on your vehicle, I can tell you some locations I have run across over the years. the 67-69 camaros and 68-74 novas had them under the wiper grill, which you had to remove , stamped on the cowl. My 74 F350 had them on the top of the right frame rail under the front seat area. (need a mirror between top of the rail and floor. Also the top of the left rear frame rail above or right behind the rear axle. On a vega I had, it was in the left front wheel well on the bottom of the spring housing visible between the back of the wheel / fender area.
Usually cars and trucks have the following. top of frame, left front near axle area, top of frame, right frame rail, under front seat, top of frame, above or just behind rear axle, right side of cowl, either under the ac / heater box, or on top of cowl, right side, engine block, trans case, rear axle housing, left side of rear window area(mopars had them there and you would have to remove rear window and remove the window glue. and they would be invisable when window is installed).Alot of fords have them behind the dash, where you loosen the dash, pull it back and between the dash/ windshield it is stamped in the cowl area, usually in the center/ to right side. Also, build sheets have a vin, usually found above gas tanks, bottom of seat cushions, and under carpet. sometimes left front windshield pillar, under plastic trim. Hope this helps. Took me over 30 years auto/ truck experience to run across all of these. The NCIB publishes a small book available to law enforcement which lists confidential vin locations for certain vehicles. There are actually more than are listed in the book, and usually in case the book falls into the hands of theft rings, they omit 1 or 2 per vehicle. I have an older issue of that book somewhere I bought at a flea market .

Reason: spelling
I know i may sound like a sketch ball asking for the locations of the confidential vins especially seen as though i have less than 5 posts but i really needed to know before i go to the inspection place in my state. last thing i need is for them to impound the car if it is indeed stolen(which im 90% sure its not due to me still being in contact with the seller, obviously if the guy sold me a stolen car wouldnt he avoid my phone calls?).. if they impound the truck i can kiss my money i paid for it goodbye, id have a better chance getting the money back myself. does that book you have show the navi vin locations or is it to old? thanks for your help

Why don't you go and ask the police where to look? I'm sure if you tell them that the door sticker is missing they will help you out, by explaining what to do. What state do you live in? I think the police would have better things to do than check for 2 VIN's on every out of state vehicle that is going to get registered. If your vehicle is salvaged, that might explain the situation.
