Hi guys Im looking for the VIN for my 1955 C600. Big opps here...No Vin plate. I never even looked for it since this truck came to me directly from a Colorado Licensed Vehicle Dealership....All the paperwork was in order or so it seemed but then again how would that be a reasonable statement if no one including me checked to see that the vin on the title and the one on the truck(missing? or am I not finding it?) are matching???? 1st step is to find out the frame location for the VIN....Please help here....
The number should be on the right front frame rail like between the wheel and the firewall. A few weeks ago someone posted a pic of their number on their frame. Perhaps they will post that pic again.
Edit: having said that I am now thinking it might be a bit different on a COE.
On my 55 f350 ,the 56 f600 , the 55 f100 and my current love affair of what 8 or 9 years bessie my 53 f100 thay were all on the right front frame rail like abe said but on the 53 it is in front of the tire between the core support and the tire . also as i'm not at home if i remember right on said 53 i believe ( might have been on of the others including the 49 f4 which it is always there on the earlier trucks ) it was on the right side midway on the firewall , which is odd for the 53 through 56's i believe . so get out the wire brushes and start scouring away !!!!!!
Thanks Guys...This COE is across town in a storage place so I will have to go check the right front upper frame under the hood... probably this afternoon. The truck is very clean I looked under the hood but not very hard... I also need to know what the VIN tag looks like because it is likely that I will have one made....there is a guy who makes them...I need to know how the TWO SPEED REAR AXLE has BOTH RATIOs listed on the FACTORY VIN TAG so I can make sure he stamps it onto the tag like they did from the factory. BOTH RATIOS WOULD need to be listed for what Ive read im just not sure how they would have stamped it would it be example(i havent figured out what the ratios actually are yet---I will be counting wheel vs drive shaft turns this weekend---yeaaaa) is it 4.10 : 4:56 OR are those numbers reversed with the lower ratio placed first? OR are those two numbers separated by a /(slash) instead of a colon) OR is there a space OR is there an *(asterik)OR???? I really would like a photo of what a 1955 C600 COE VIN TAG looks like so I can make sure I get mine to look like it is supposed to. Im sure an F or P series with the 2 speed rear end would work also it is sure to be stamped the same except for the model designation in the vin... After I have the gear ratio info I will actually have all the correct information to list it I just want this tag to reflect the stamped information as it was 60 years ago....It would suck to have it stamped inacurately when this is my chance to copy the exact way it was once done...Anyone got a 1955 ford F600 or C600 or P600 vehicle still or originally equipped with a 2 speed rear end and still have that vin plate and is willing to send me a picture of their VIN Plate?----you can block out the vin number i am really only interested in the axle listings, the gvw numbers etc and how they look. I know the ViN has an *asterik before and * after the VIN but Im not sure of any other "punctuation".....After I get this tag done I let everyone know how I achieved this but I need the information and hopefully one of you guy's vin as a photo first...
Here are the data fields that you will find on the data plate. This plate should be located on the inside of the glove box door just like the smaller trucks. Since you stated that you have your paperwork in order it should be a smooth, albeit pricey, task to get a perfect data plate made for your truck. Many on this forum put a lot of emphasis on frame stampings over the data plate, I believe that each state has their own policies. I am in San Diego as well and from my experience the VIN verifiers and DMV couldn't care less about frame numbers if you have an unmolested data plate. Since you have the paperwork from CO I would suggest you use a VIN verifier here in town, I use one in Lakeside...inexpensive and VERY easy to work with. She will fill out the CA DMV paperwork, take it to the DMV, and return the completed paperwork with a set CA license plates by the end of the day. Get your data plate made first using your CO paperwork and then start the CA process.

Charlie, as I stated above, A.G. Backeast is the one that makes the Data Plates and he will NOT make the plate unless you send him a copy of the current title in YOUR name. I know from experience and talking to him.
Sorry Guys. A clarity issue is occurring. 1. I do NOT have this title in my name. I have all the Colorado title and the bill of Sale and dealership paperwork from the Colorado Licensed Vehicle Dealership that was sent to me when My check cleared. The bill of sale and title are clearly written that I have purchased this truck. 2. I already went to California DMV to start the registration process. The truck was out of state at the time and I wanted to bring it in so I started the process. They took estimated fees and issued a "Red" temporary registration slip allowing me to drive the vehicle for 45 days until the rest of the required steps were done. 3. Those remaining steps are: 3A. Have the VIN VERIFIED AND a Inspection done for what Powertrain is in the truck and compare what they see to the Colorado Title paperwork that I have. This inspection can be done at California DMV or some other approved VIN Verifier(AAA or a police officer or ?. 3B. Go to a public scale that certifies weight and have the truck weighed to Provide a WEIGHT CERTIFICATE. So far California DMV is NOT aware of any VIN ISSUES. If i have to I will have the Colorado Vehicle Dealership get the VIN TAG from A.G Backeast. The Truck TITLE IS IN THE Colorado Vehicle Dealer's NAME CURRENTLY.
I have been in contact with A.G.Backeast. So far he hasnt mentioned the name thing to me. I guess its possible he also isnt aware i am trying to register this truck. I thought he understood that I was having a problem regarding registration but maybe that is not a correct presumption. After reading all your comments regarding his insistence on seeing the proper paperwork I am second guessing what he knows. It makes sense he would want title to be in the person requesting this service's name already to protect himself and for him to remain legitimate.
A.G.Backeast DID mention he HAS NOT DONE a VIN TAG for a "LARGER" truck yet and admitted he did not know that both axle ratios would be stamped on the tag in the ratio section. That point came out in one of the back and forth emails I have had with him so far. That is why I was asking for a picture of someones F600/C600/P600 VIN PLATE I want the FORMAT such as the spacing/punctuation/data to be stamped on the new TAG properly. In the photograph I am seeking, I dont need anyone's Id #(put some tape over that number or otherwise hide it) I DO need to see the REST of an ORIGINAL VIN TAG to copy the format. If he had already done one that wouldnt be necessary, he would know the format. Since that's not the case a photo example is the best way to make sure its done correctly. I would hate to pay that money and have it not have a period correct VIN Plate when its all said and done. Also the next guy with a larger truck that wants a VIN Plate wont have to deal with the format issue...AG Backeast will have the format to do it correctly then.
