ranger2.3 dohc engine
my ranger is sick? i have a 2001 w/24,000 miles the motor started making a diesel type noise on exceleration, and had a loss in power, the dealer said he thought somthing in the lower end broke? the truck will idle ok-little noise, i changed the oil, and it looked co. co. brown and when steered had swirles of black, i detected no condensation under the oil filler cap? when it diesels i notice the oil gague flickers and drops, could i just have a bad oil pump?

Coco brown with swirls of black make it sound as if the oil hasn't been changed since the engine was new. Maybe those chunks-of-oil are having a hard time making it thru the pump?
