On the stock airbox the MAF is located behind the air filter. There is a black plate that the air filter seats against, pull that out of the housing. The MAF is screwed to the plate.
I use CRC MAF cleaner I get at Advanced or Autozone. Costs about $7 a can but it made especially for cleaning the MAF. Follow the directions on the can and make shure you spray every wire good. (Thats why I take mine out of the truck) I clean my MAF twice a year.
Below is the description for a full driving cycle... I always do this on the very aggressive side to also teach the trany my driving style
If the vehicle’s powertrain system or its battery has just been serviced,
the on-board diagnostics system is reset to a “not ready for I/M test”
condition. To ready the on-board diagnostics system for I/M testing, a
minimum of 30 minutes of city and highway driving is necessary as
described below:
• First, at least 10 minutes of driving on an expressway or highway.
• Next, at least 20 minutes driving in stop-and-go, city-type traffic with
at least four idle periods.
Allow the vehicle to sit for at least eight hours without starting the
engine. Then, start the engine and complete the above driving cycle. The
engine must warm up to its normal operating temperature. Once started,
do not turn off the engine until the above driving cycle is complete.
Fred...so I understand completely, disconnect the battery after servicing the MAF for at least 20 minutes. Then reconnect the battery and let it sit for at least 8 hours, then complete a driving cycle as you've described above. I just want to make sure I do this in the correct fashion...thanks.
If you click "FULL DRIVING CYCLE" in my post above it will give you a very detailed driving cycle. Just ignore the stuff about monitoring it with Auto Tap software.
I did not see Monsta's link before...this is much more comprehensive and I strongly recommend copying his instructions and learning how to do it that way....
The quick way I posted works for me to complete the trany learning and set the 'puter for an emissions test
I am surprised that as much as I research this motor and the OBDII that I had never seen (in one place) all the steps in Monsta's link...
Learn somethingnew every day... Monsta thanks for the second post....got my attention
