I noticed my truck had a small coolant leak yesterday after driving it and then parking it in the garage. I drove it today and then checked under the hood to see if it was leaking at the thermostat housing as it seems alot on here have. Everything looked dry. I read somewhere there is a weep hole in the pump? I am going out to take the fan off and the pulley to see if it is leaking past the shaft. I can't pinpoint the leak because it is hitting the harmonic balancer and scattering everywhere. Any suggestions / helpful hints would be appreciated.

 

Sounds like the weep hole, its right over the harmonic balancer. I bought a new water pump from www.northernautoparts.com $95 with shipping. Air tex makes these pumps for the dealers, then they mark them up to $300.

I just took the pulley off of the water pump. The pulley had a small amount of antifreeze on the inside. I think I saw the weep hole just below the shaft for the water pump pulley. The airtex design looks good being a one piece design rather than having the return line bolted on with a gasket to keep it sealed. I'm going to look them up.

Its been in my truck for about 50k, no problems yet. I tried a rebuilt one from Merle's first and it cost $169 lasted 25k or something like that. New is better, just make sure you use the additive in the coolant.
