My check engine light has come on a couple of times lately. I have simply taken the truck to Auto Zone and used the plug in decoder to find out what is wrong and clear the code. Since it is running fine and the mileage hasn't changed, I didn't feel the need to rush it to a shop. I am getting a "lean on bank two" reading. This morning the CEL came on again. My first thought is that it must be the O2 sensor? Has anyone had this same issue. The engine is the 5.4L, the truck is an 05 model f250. I don't want to bring it the ford dealer to get ripped off.
Check for a vacuum leak. My '98 F-150 and 97 Expedition, both 5.4l did the same thing. Follow the PCV line around the back side of the intake manifold. The line tends to split where it makes a sharp corner there.
Jason, make any headway with your CEL dilema? I'm having a similar problem. After I get home from work today I'm going to give that vacuum thing a try.
Clean you’re MAFS. Remove the air intake hose and spray some electrical cleaner on the little wire inside. Don’t spray to hard or touch it, if it breaks your looking at 100 bucks or more.
thanks - I will try that today - I checked all over for disconnected hoses or damaged hoses and couldn't find anything -
will let you guys know what the problem was
Thanks for the heads up, I do have a K&N filter in there. I haven't checked the MAFS yet. Pretty much being lazy and because it has been cold up here in Denver. I plan to shortly, and will definetly post what I found,t
Your situation is exactly what I experienced with my 2002 5.4
An experinced Ford mechanic on this website suggested gently cleaning the MAF with electronics cleaner as a first step ...... and that solved the problem.
