You damaged the engine when you had the timing 180 degrees off and ran it, There are no short methods of fixing mechanical damage.
The Y block is a mechanical mushroom solid type lifter. No hydraulics involved. Straight metal on metal with a little oil thrown in for lube. Its why things really break in a Y block when the gear mistake is made. The Y's lifters have to be removed with the engine upside down or with special fabricated clips to allow the cam to slide out.
I'm not sure why a blown head gasket isn't suspected here. A warped head and/or blown head gasket would/could take out a whole bank of cylinders. I would look for bubbles or worse (oil) in the radiator fluid while the truck is running.
i got out there and get in and it seems as it is idling high so i try to kick it down by stepping on the pedal.. well it just wouldnt go down so i wasnt sure what was going on.
Kicking down on the gas pedal doesn't work when trying to bring the idle RPM's down....
....When you have a manual choke.
Clickity-clack...clickity-clack = Y blocks have solid lifters.
