Engine Temp Light

Does anyone know what this idiot light signifies? Is it oil temp or water temp or both? This light just came on yesterday and is staying on now. Will disconnecting the batteries reset the codes or does it have to be flashed??

Rick

What does the lamp look like litup in the 97F? Water, oil, or both?
In the E its oil/water temp and oil pressure all in 1 Red combo lamp by 97.
97 E was the new instrument cluster, F was early SD

I have seen 2 sensors in IDI and 94.5 psd

Picts are worth a thousand words. That is proof that the lamp was combined
when body style changed. New instrument cluster.

The lamp says "Engine Temp". There is no symbol or indication. Im guessing the sensor went bad. The water gauge is reading normal and the oil temp is 160 according to the scanner.

HELP - Won't Crank "engine temp" light 15deg F in Maine

Noob here...W/o trying to hijack the thread I have a "related" question....recently bought a 1993 F250 4x4 w/ 7.3 IDI turbo diesel w/ fisher MM plow to plow my private drive in Maine....

Its been starting and plowing fine (unplugged w/o block heater) while the temps have been between 30-45 degrees F and last night it was going to be in the mid-teens and had snowed all day so I plugged it in overnight....

This morning at ~5:45am
Put key in - let glow plugs engage ~30sec then they turn out - go to turn over and nothing... just the ENGINE TEMP light comes on....?

Is it indicating too cold or too hot?
the block heater "plug" is working

But it will not crank does not even try....Any assistance is appreciated as I could have burned that thing to the ground I was so pissed this morning,,, but it doesn't take long to cool off in Maine and I'm back to my senses

Bottom Line is:
I would like to know what cause/effect the Engine Temp light has?
Ex: does it disconnect the actuation/engagement of the starter?
only when engine coolant is "too hot" OR only when too cold?

Or is just my Starter bad - and "nothing" is happening when I go to turn over....

Thanks and glad to be part of the forum.

Well your temp light should have no affect on the cranking or starting of the truck. More than likely it comes on when you have the key in the crank position normally it just since you have issues now you noticed it. My guess is that your batteries are dead or you have a bad connection.

Also since your truck is a 7.3 IDI for more engine specific (later reference) you will want to post in the IDI forum one spot below this one.

Welcome to FTE.
