i have an 86 bronco that i want to convert to a 2 wheel drive pre runner style rig. the ttb is all missing from the bronco but i have a 79 2 wheel drive f150 sitting in the back yard...
will the 2 wheel drive stuff bolt up under the bronco with out to much trouble.
i know im spaeking blasfimy but wait till you see it done
i believe there were 2wd broncos. i know ford made 2wd explorers and im pretty sure they made 2wd centurions.
I dont know if they are the same cross member but i doubt it will be just a bolt in operation. If i had to guess the frame was a bit different up front.
Ford never made a 2wd full size Bronco in the US or Canada.
I'm not sure if the 79 parts will swap over, but I know a 2wd from an 80-96 2wd F-150 will work. I would also make sure that whatever truck you get donor parts from has ball joints and not king pins.
would'nt it be easier to make the 79 frame fit the bronco body? if that's the running gear you want? or just get the same year two wheel drive stuff, the frame's should be close? it might even have the hole's all ready there? I dont know which of the two year two wheel drive set up's would be better for a pre runner, but I think if it was me, I would use the 79, shorten it to fit, set it all up and get it done then put the bronk's body on it! just my .02's
If you want to build a street truck, more power to you. But if you are building any kind of off road vehical, I wouldnd waste my time on two wheel drive. (except a dune buggy maybe, in that case the engine must be over the rear wheels)
Get some like year F150 parts from a 2x4 . They r doing 2 to 4x4 all time on truck forum. No fabing just use stock parts . Need Independate I beams, Rad arms, Possible spring buckets (Have beentold they r taller on 2x4 ) Spindals .ETC.ETC
Hey on less thing to worry about when rodding. They 2x4 was a Mexico Thing
Buddy has had one that is completely stock 2x4 85(he built ) with just slightly wider tires or stock rims. And every time we'd go to nascar races he gets offered money for it.
I understand ya! anything can be done! it's all up to you on which route you go? I think it would be cool, dont let the hardcore's talk ya down, after all it's you'r and your money building it so go for it + do what you want

oh yea I forgot to say that I would use the 79 frame and make it fit the body!
