Dizzy swap

I finally found the right vaccuum advance distributor and carburetor to swap into my 86 so I can get rid of the TFI-IV system. The control module in the truck right now is just screwy and it's a pain in the @$$ to tune. That electronic advance is junk. NOw, here's my problem. The "new" dizzy is from a '78 L6 300 and I got the carb to go with it (carter YF, pre-solenoid/emissions control). The '78 distributor has a 3 prong female connector that should run to the control module & then to the coil. So should this be as easy as getting a 1978 wiring harness and swapping it in for what I have now? I don't have to worry about emissions where I live, so I'd like to get rid of all of the computer controlled junk so I can tune the truck like it's a truck, not like it's an old PC. Any help you guys can offer would be great.
Phil
