Bought a truck with guages already installed. Trans temp on a pillar pod and looks good. Boost and EGT on a pair under the dash and look sad. I would like to have all new guages on a triple pillar setup along with the DP_tuner F switch.
My question is, I do not want to drill/tap again (don't really know how). Can I use new guages with existing tap locations / wires etc or would the new guages require their own proprietary connections?
Am also considering the Edge Monitor that just hooks up to the OBD port (except for EGT) for the same reasons as above.
What brand of gauges do you have? Just check to see if the existing tapped EGT probe is the same size, and it won't be a big deal. The wiring part isn't a big deal either. Boost gauge uses a tube and only needs lights/power for wiring...
What is the problem with the underdash gauges, just the location or the entire getup? What brand are they?
Most gauges hook up the same way so getting new ones, if you need them ought to hook up at the some spot.
The edge stuff is good but reads from the PCM. The advantage of mechanical gauges is having a seperate reading that is not reliant on electronics from the PCM which is very handy when you begin to suspect you have a problem.
The boost/pyro under dash guages are BANKs branded. They aren't terrible but aren't lighted very well and from an angle at night...what you see is ok on the left guage but on the right guage waht you see is a bunch of light bleeding around the edge making it hard to read....and they don't match the Tranny guage in the pillar.
Thanks for the input.
Do you guys think that the EDGE / PCM based guages are accurate, except for when you have PCM problems or are they simply not accurate / as accurate as normal guages?
Yes, you can get all new gauges on the pillar, and then get a four gauge pod, leave the bottom one open for the DP switch. I have a Beta version of the switch in my pillar, and i love it. I don't know when they are going to be released, but its so much nicer than the F5 version.

Yes, they are like a cheap man's scanner for certain data. They are pretty much dead on for what the PCM is looking at. I use mechanicals and hook up AutoEnginuity every now and then to compare certain parameters.
