Rusted through Drip Rail

I have a drip rail that has been repaired once before and it is really bad. As in a 12" secion in the front where it is missing everythign in the middle and above the drivers window rusted out into the roof. I am going to be cutting out some of the metal on the roof portion (not the actual rail as I'm not that good at body work...this is my first shot at it and I'm on my own here). But I wanted to know the name of the special caulking that was used to fill in the drip rail. Apperently it is special for automotive use. I ground a CRAPLOAD out of my drip rail as it was cracked all over the place. I'm not sure if it worked or not as it looked pretty bad under there but it sounds like the right stuff. I just need to be able to get my hands on some.

I think the caulking you refer to would be called automotive "seam sealer". It can be purchased from any auto paint store.

Thank you,

I have to go find a auto paint shop around here. I called some body shops and they all refered me to advanced auto. I thought that was pretty lame.

There a tons of body shop supply stores online especially on ebay. There is a special caulk just for rain gutters, seam sealer is too thin. 3M makes dozens of fillers and adhesives just for the body shop trade. It's a common "joke" amongst craftmen that when asked where to buy supplies to send them to some place that sells to amatuers or to suggest they ask the competitor they dislike the most. When I receive such calls about jewelry making supplies I often suggest Michaels or Hobby Lobby. After all these people make a living at what they do and have invested time and money getting where they are and cultivating their sources. I once had a previous customer call and say "I want to start selling diamonds out of my home, who do you buy your diamonds from?". Another came in with a cheap bracelet in hand, and said "I just bought this bracelet from a guy who came around to the place where I work and was selling these cheap. I want my wife to think it came from you tho, so could you give me a box for it with your name on it?". (He got downright ugly and called me names I won't repeat, in my own store, when I said no!)
It people like that that makes us send others to the jeweler down the street that we dislike...
